For my undergraduate dissertation, I explored the potential of blockchain technology to improve the security and efficiency of internet-of-things (IoT) devices. I developed a proof-of-concept for a blockchain-based IoT product and then evaluated its performance against traditional systems, including an SQL-based database and commercial IoT devices like the Nest home camera and the Ring One.
The results of my research were very promising. I found that the blockchain-based system had significantly better security and power usage than the traditional systems. While the speed and scalability were not as good, they were still very respectable and showed great potential for future development.
This project was a great learning experience for me. It gave me a deep understanding of blockchain technology and its potential applications in the IoT space. It also gave me valuable experience in all aspects of product development, from research and design to implementation and testing.
